A clear exit path
Account Deletion
Effective date: October 20, 2026
You can permanently delete your Emily account from inside the app or request deletion by email. Deleting an account is not the same as signing out, suspending, or hiding a profile.
1. Before you continue
Account deletion is intended to be permanent. It may remove access to your profile, messages, selected media, voice messages, safety settings, and unused account-bound entitlements. Another user may still have a lawful copy of content you shared with that person.
You do not need to reinstall Emily to submit an external request. If you can sign in, use the in-app path first so ownership can be checked directly.
2. Delete in the app
- Open Emily and sign in to the account you want to delete.
- Open Profile, then Settings.
- Select Account or Privacy.
- Choose Delete Account.
- Review the warning, complete the account-ownership check, and confirm permanent deletion.
Screen labels can change as Emily is updated. Look for Delete Account in account, privacy, or security settings. If the control is unavailable, use the email request route below.
3. Request deletion by email
Send a request from the email address connected to your Emily account where possible. Use the subject line Emily Account Deletion Request - Your User ID.
Email an Emily deletion request
Include only information reasonably needed to locate and verify the account:
- Emily User ID or profile ID;
- the account email or phone number, if applicable;
- your approximate last successful login date; and
- a profile screenshot only if useful, with unrelated sensitive details redacted.
Never send a password, full payment-card information, government identification number, or suspected illegal content. We may ask for limited additional information when reasonably necessary to prevent an unauthorized deletion.
4. Verification and timing
A complete in-app request begins after the final confirmation and ownership check. A complete email request is generally reviewed and processed within 3-5 business days. Processing may take longer when identity cannot be verified, a safety or fraud investigation is active, a valid preservation duty applies, or backups follow a controlled deletion cycle.
5. Data covered by deletion
Subject to limited exceptions, deletion covers active account data linked to you, including identifiers, profile details, settings, messages, selected media, voice messages, device and communication metadata, support requests, and information needed for ordinary service administration. Data already independently saved by another user or irreversibly de-identified may not be removable from that separate location.
6. Limited retention
We may retain only data reasonably necessary for a lawful purpose, including transaction, tax, accounting, refund, chargeback, fraud-prevention, security, child-safety, abuse, dispute, legal-process, or mandatory-reporting records. Some financial records may be retained for the period required by applicable law, which can be up to seven years in some jurisdictions. Isolated backups are overwritten through controlled cycles, and processor deletion instructions are passed on where applicable.
7. Google Play purchases
Deleting Emily does not automatically reverse a completed Google Play purchase. Refund eligibility follows Google Play rules and applicable law. If a subscription is billed separately by Google Play, cancel it in Google Play before deleting the account. Account deletion may remove access to unused account-bound digital items.
